Stay Home Project Herd enjoying their freedom in the forest
(Turn up your volume)
No one knows how long it will be before travel resumes because of COVID19.
But, COVID19 has given us a great opportunity to create permanent
change for these gentle giants.
It is our hope, and dream, that sooner rather than later, the borders will open
and people will once again be able visit beautiful Thailand.
In the meantime we will be working in coordination with
Save Elephant Foundation on developing volunteer base programs
where you will be able to travel to the village
to meet your sponsored elephant(s).
There you will see for yourself how much these gentle giants
have thrived in their own environment. You will be able to watch
and experience them be elephants.
At the same time, you will be able to fully immerse yourself
in the livelihood of the village, by taking part in their daily activities,
eating with and living as one with the villagers!
A real taste of life in Thailand!
Without a doubt, an amazing and unforgettable experience.
Unfortunately, we are unable to bring all gentle giants to sanctuary. There is not enough space, enough land, enough money. So we bring sanctuary to them! We keep them in their forest where they belong!
Through our sponsorship program we take elephants out of the tourist industry. We keep them from having to beg on unsafe, unprotected streets; like our beautiful Surin elephants once did. We keep them from being sold into the grueling logging industry and we keep mothers and babies together as it should always be.
The logging industry destroyed much of the forest in Northern Thailand. By returning this keystone species, these ecosystem engineers, to the forest we are helping to encourage re-forestation and other profound impacts on the environment. Elephants provide food, shelter, water and help create new pathways as well as identifying important nutrient rich salt licks. These services not only benefit the elephants, but other flora and fauna as well. If elephants were to be completely eliminated or prevented from roaming freely within a broad ecosystem, these ecosystems will cease to flourish. They will become less diverse and, in some places, will collapse to over-simplified impoverishment.
As we give back liberation to these gentle ones & contribute to the health of the environment, we are also systematically helping the local farmers, villagers, and communities that have been impacted by Covid19. We are creating employment opportunities, education, growth. Gentle Giants is creating, not only contributing to animal welfare and environmental sustainability, but we are creating a progressive humanitarian movement along the way.
